E/H Football One of Top 40 Football Traditions in South

October 11, 2004 -- The September/October issue of y'all magazine lists Emory / Henry College among the 40 colleges and universities in the South with the "greatest football traditions."

Emory / Henry was one of only two Division III colleges on the list, which included the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The other Division III school on the list is Sewanee.

"Not to be overshadowed by neighboring Division I powerhouses Tennessee and Virginia Tech, this beloved Division III school is rich in tradition," says y'all about Emory / Henry.

Billed as the magazine of Southern people, y'all is sent to approximately 30,000 subscribers and appears in newsstands throughout the South. The magazine provides features on food, money, sports and fashion as well as profiles on celebrities and other well-known personalities with roots in the South.

"Being recognized by this magazine in this way is a great honor for Emory / Henry," said Nathan Graybeal, E/H sports information director. "This article on the greatest college football traditions is another affirmation of our football program, its success and the many loyal fans that it attracts."

The article refers to the large crowds (an average of more than 5,000) that have attended E/H football events over the past 10 years. The story also mentions the college's claim to 27 conference championships, nine bowl appearances, 11 ODAC conference championships and a win-loss record of 471-352-19.

"Winning seasons plus pride and pageantry equals one of the greatest Southern football traditions," the magazine states.
